Carol is a dramatic love story set during the early 1950s about the relationship between a young aspiring photographer and a married woman with a young daughter and marital problems. Critically acclaimed for their strong performances, Blanchett and particularly Mara, look bored in this tedious and drawn out story. Undoubtedly scandalous in 1952, and noted for its nearly happy conclusion, the importance of the source material seems lost in the dull screenplay and slow pacing of this film (Klaus Ming January 2016).
