Le notti di Cabiria (1957)

Italy 118m, B&W
Director: Federico Fellini; Cast: Giulietta Masina, FrançoisPérier, Amedeo Nazzari, Franca Marzi, Dorian Gray, Franco Fabrizi

nights-of-cabiriaNights of Cabiria is a heartbreaking love story about a lonely prostitute in postwar Rome who desperately wishes to find a husband and settle down. An overly cheerful and resilient woman, Cabiria is a guarded optimist, despite being let down by just about every man she meets. A predictable, yet powerful film, Fellini generates a tremendous amount of sympathy for a character living on the margins who would otherwise be dismissed by society (Klaus Ming February 2016).
