Tomorrowland (2015)

US 130m, Colour
Director: Brad Bird; Cast: Britt Robertson, George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key

TomorrowlandAs with a growing number of recent science fiction films such as The Hunger Games (2012-15), Jupiter Ascending (2015) and Ender’s Game (2013), Tomorrowland is aimed at a teenage audience. As the daughter of a NASA engineer, the optimistic Casey is “chosen” to save humanity from itself. A simple, but interesting premise, this film has an environmental message which suggests that we have all too easily accepted a dystopian future. As a fantasy, Tomorrowland has beautiful visuals, engaging characters and a nostalgic 1960s belief in a brighter future, which was perhaps lost on the intended younger audience (Klaus Ming February 2016).
