Crimson Peak (2015)

US 119m, Colour
Director: Guillermo del Toro; Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Jim Beaver

crimson_peakCrimson Peak is a dark and beautifully styled gothic romance and ghost story set in a decrepit English mansion replete with some of the most stunningly macabre apparitions yet put to film. Likely to seem tame to most fans of the modern horror genre, Crimson Peak is a throwback to classic haunted house films which create an atmosphere of dread and foster our imagination. Oddly, yet not surprisingly, there are a couple of graphically violent scenes which seem out-of-place in this otherwise restrained tale of love, murder and betrayal (Klaus Ming February 2016).
