Va, Vis et Deviens (2005)Live and Become is an inspirational film that explores the issues of faith, identity and racism within a story about a young refugee who escapes famine in Ethiopia through “Operation Moses,” an American/Israeli mission to relocate the native Jewish sect of Ethiopia to Israel. Growing up, Schlomo struggles to keep his true identity secret and attempts to become a good Jewish citizen, while not forsaking the memory of his home and his mother’s wishes. Though Va, Vis et Deviens is a fictional account, it is not hard to imagine that very similar circumstances have occurred, and continue to play out, for orphaned refugee children from all over the world (Klaus Ming February 2016).
