Three Lives and Only One Death is a very complicated and surreal comedic drama about four characters played by Mastroianni who appear in different stories which become wholly intertwined by the fourth act. They include a salesman held captive by fairies, a professor turned beggar, a mute butler who serves a young bohemian couple, and an industrialist with imagined visitors who insist on becoming real. If these stories were not odd on their own, they become even stranger as the are brought together under Ruiz’s meticulous direction (Klaus Ming March 2016).
