deus_e_o_diabo_na_terra_do_solBlack God, White Devil is a slow dark drama that follows a couple who flee the scene of a murder to find themselves wandering the desert searching for the promised land. Initially following a “holy” man, they hope to have their sins cleansed through the death of an innocent, but only fall further into chaos as the survivors of a massacre. Full of symbolism and unlikable characters, Rocha uses their violent and pointless actions to expose the futility of religious dogma and the need to find one’s own path (Klaus Ming April 2016).
