Broadcast News (1987)

US 133m, Colour
Director: James L. Brooks; Cast: William Hurt, Albert Brooks, Holly Hunter, Robert Prosky, Lois Chiles, Jack Nicholson

broadcast-newsAs a romantic comedy and satire about television news and the pressures of producing it, Broadcast News isn’t very romantic, nor is it very funny. While it may provide insights into the newsroom, it is filled with unlikable characters, cringe-worthy performances, and is set to an insipid soundtrack. Aside from the amusing character introductions at the beginning of the film, Broadcast News is a badly dated and contrived melodrama (Klaus Ming April 2016).

I’d not seen Broadcast News before this evening. It seems that my initial decision to overlook it was correct.
