Ucho (1970)

Czechoslovakia 94m, B&W
Director: Karel Kachyňa; Cast: RadoslavBrzobohatý, JiřinaBohdalová

the-earUcho is a chilling black comedy that was probably not far from the truth as evidenced by it being banned by the government for almost twenty years. The non-linear story follows a couple in an unhappy marriage who leave early from a Communist Party event to find that someone has been in their house. Suspicious and paranoid that the state has been listening, they fear the worst. Utilizing point-of-view shots, Kachyňa creates a disturbingly voyeuristic mood that becomes an effective satire of state surveillance and paranoia (Klaus Ming April 2016).
