The Dressmaker is a very entertaining dramatic black comedy about the homecoming of Myrtle “Tilly” Dunnage, who was sent away as child for the murder of a young boy. Seeking explanation of her “wrongdoing”, and reconnecting with her mentally unstable mother, Tilly’s attempts to ingratiate herself with her dressmaking skills leads to further heartbreak and revenge. Both intensely funny and sad, and filled with wonderfully oddball characters, The Dressmaker is also a beautiful looking production with fine art direction and marvellous cinematography (Klaus Ming April 2016).
