Drugstore Cowboy (1989)

US 102m, Colour
Director: Gus Van Sant; Cast: Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, James Remar, James LeGros, Heather Graham, William Burroughs

Drugstore Cowboy (1989)Drugstore Cowboy is an unsentimental crime drama that was based on James Fogle’s unpublished autobiography while he was completing a prison sentence. His story is about a dysfunctional “family” of drug addicts who travel across the northwestern US robbing drugstores and getting high. As the leader of the gang, Bob (Matt Dillon) attempts to reform himself after the death of a friend. The film’s authenticity is undoubtedly found in Fogle’s manuscript, as well as in Dillion’s convincing dark performance as a repentant junkie (Klaus Ming May 2016).
