Moonstruck (1987)

US 102m, Colour
Director: Norman Jewison; Cast: Cher, Nicolas Cage, Danny Aiello, Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis

moonstruckMoonstruck is a delightful romantic comedy about Loretta, a young Italian widow who decides to re-marry, only to fall in love with her fiance’s estranged brother. This lighthearted story with a strong ensemble cast has a whimsical look and feel that is full of impulsive characters and multiple interwoven dilemmas. Cher’s performance as Loretta is particularly engaging, and surprisingly passionate for a comedy with this many laughs (Klaus Ming May 2016).

This is a film I liked more seeing it recently than I did when it first came out. I’m still not sure u would have given Cher the Oscar over Glenn Close or Holly Hunter, but she is still very good in this. I do think the Oscar for Best Screenplay to John Patrick Shanley is well deserved.

Me too, I was quite surprised how well it held up.
