Man of Iron is a fictionalized account of the Polish Solidarity movement that employs documentary footage to tell the story of Maciej Tomczyk, a young anti-Communist involved in the labour movement who is responsible for starting the Gdańsk Shipyard strike. His would-be adversary is an alcoholic journalist who is hired by the government to discredit this Lech Wałęsa styled character. Though this film is not particularly engaging, particularly for anyone not interested in the Polish labour movement, it is historically significant insofar as it was allowed to be made under Soviet control (Klaus Ming May 2016).
