Through the Olive Trees is a film about film making that fails to capture anything interesting about the process. While I really wanted to like this film, watching it was a frustrating and repetitive experience. Aside from demonstrating, repeatedly, that the lines between reality and fiction are blurred for the film’s main characters, this is a tedious and self-indulgent production which has captured the fancy of many film critics. As the third part of a trilogy, perhaps I lack the context to fully appreciate a man putting on his shoes and socks 27 times (Klaus Ming May 2016).
