A modern screwball-styled romantic comedy with a heartfelt conclusion, The Wedding Banquet is about a “traditional” Taiwanese family who arrange an extravagant wedding for their gay son who plans to marry a beautiful Chinese woman in the hope that he can continue to hide his long-term relationship with his partner. As the film’s title implies, the sham marriage spirals out of control when his parents show up with grand expectations for their son’s big day (Klaus Ming May 2016).
