The Blue Kite is a tragic family drama told from the perspective of a boy who grew up in Beijing during the rise of communism in China under Mao Tse-tung. Told in three parts, the little boy Tietou and his mother are repeatedly forced to rebuild their lives as a result of politically driven events. As a critical look at the repression of its citizens it is not surprising that this film and its director were banned in China (Klaus Ming May 2016).
