Hour of the Wolf is the story of a young woman’s recollections about her husband’s hallucinations and his eventual disappearance, which we are told is the basis for the film that we are about to watch. Speaking directly to the camera at both the film’s outset and conclusion, Alma recounts their story, which includes entries from her husband’s diary. What follows is presented in the form of a flashback that heavily employs expressionist visual techniques which Bergman uses to help create the dark mood and setting for this surreal psychological horror film (Klaus Ming September 2016).
