The Puppetmaster is an interesting historical drama based on the memoirs of Taiwanese puppeteer Li Tian-lu, who was ordered to use his skills for Japanese propaganda efforts during World War II. Combining interviews and dramatization, this is a study of 19thC Taiwanese culture, and a political commentary on the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, as well as a showcase for the art of puppetry (Klaus Ming September 2016).
