Kes (1969)

UK 112m, Colour
Director: Ken Loach; Cast: David Bradley, Freddie Fletcher, Lynne Perrie, Colin Welland, Brian Glover

kesSet in northern England, Kes is a heartbreaking drama about Billy Casper, a bullied boy from an abusive and broken home who has little interest in anything except a young falcon that he finds on a nearby farm. To his teacher’s utter surprise, we learn the full extent of Billy’s passion for Kes, as he unexpectedly tells the class about the training of his falcon, A most sympathetic character, we know that Billy has little chance of making anything of his life, and that his short time with Kes is perhaps the only positive experience he will ever have (Klaus Ming October 2016).
