The Boy (2016)

US/China 97m, Colour
Director: William Brent Bell; Cast: Lauren Cohan, Rupert Evans, Jim Norton, Diana Hardcastle, Ben Robson

theboyAn American nanny travels to England to escape an abusive relationship only to find herself entrusted with the care of the Heelshire’s life-sized porcelain doll that serves as proxy for their real son Brahms, who died in a house fire 20 years earlier. Thoroughly entertaining, The Boy is a suspenseful horror movie that employs many familiar themes relating to creepy dolls and haunted gothic houses, but also contains a surprising “scooby-doo” styled plot twist that turns the plot on its head (Klaus Ming October 2016).
