Getting Acquainted (1914)

US 16m, B&W, silent
Director: Charlie Chaplin; Cast: Charles Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Phyllis Allen, Mack Swain, Harry McCoy, Edgar Kennedy, Cecile Arnold

getting-acquaintedAlso known as “A Fair Exchange”, Getting Acquainted is a relatively quiet affair compared to most of Chaplin’s early slapstick comedies. Out for a walk in the park, Charlie and his wife meet another married couple and find themselves attracted each other’s spouses. Catching the attention of a policeman whilst chasing one another through the shrubbery, this romantic farce turns into yet another, albeit less frantic, Keystone Cops chase (Klaus Ming December 2016).
