Import/Export (2007)

Austria 135m, Colour
Director: Ulrich Seidl; Cast: Ekateryna Rak, Paul Hofmann, Michael Thomas, Natalja Baranova, Natalja Epuraneu

import_exportImport/Export is a gritty and engaging drama about two lonely people dissatisfied with their lives. Olga is an underpaid Ukrainian nurse who heads to Austria looking for opportunity and better paying job. Meanwhile, Pauli, a young unemployed Austrian security guard looks to start a new life in the Ukraine. Although the character’s stories never intertwine, their experiences are similarly melancholic and humiliating in this well-acted and unsettling film (Klaus Ming January 2017).
