Hidden Figures (2016)

US 127m, Colour
Director: Theodore Melfi; Cast: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons

hiddenfiguresHidden Figures is a beautifully filmed and heartfelt biographical drama based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book of the same name about female African-American mathematicians who worked at NASA during the early 1960s. Set against the American/Soviet space race, Hidden Figures is also an effective historical-political commentary on American race relations and equality for women (Klaus Ming February 2017).

I watched this in the cinema last night and loved it thoroughly. It was shocking how these women were treated and their success was very much deserved.

There is a lot to like about this film. And as for civil rights movement, it’s shocking to think that these things happened in my lifetime.
