Fences (2016)

US 139m, Colour
Director: Denzel Washington; Cast: Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, Saniyya Sidney

fencesFences is a dreary family melodrama set in Pittsburgh during the early 1950s that is based on August Wilson’s 1983 play of the same name. With dreams dashed of becoming a professional baseball player, Troy Maxson takes out his frustrations on his family. Full of stereotypical and clichéd dialogue, the overly long Fences feels more like a stage play than a film (Klaus Ming February 2017).
