20th Century Women (2016)

US 118m, Colour
Director: Mike Mills; Cast: Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Lucas Jade Zumann, Billy Crudup

20thcenturywomenSet in 1979, 20th Century Women is an intriguing story of a single mother in her 50s who enlists the help of two younger women to help raise her son. A self-referential film, each of the characters reflects on both their past and future selves throughout much of the film. A thoughtful and bittersweet movie, 20th Century Women is also a refreshing take on the coming-of-age story and an exploration of cultural change and feminist concepts (Klaus Ming February 2017).
