Alien: Covenant (2017)

UK/US 122m, Colour
Director: Ridley Scott; Cast: Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir

Borrowing from some of the franchise’s best moments, Covenant is a compilation of Alien’s greatest hits, though for fans of the original movies, a somewhat predictable retread of hallowed science fiction ground. If viewed with no previous knowledge of the first three films, this installment would likely be an entertaining and frightening experience. However, as a fan of the original films, this is marginally more entertaining than Prometheus (2012), but that’s not much of an endorsement. Lacking any new direction, and full of incompetent characters, this is yet another missed opportunity to reboot the franchise (Klaus Ming July 2017).
