Considering the recent political war against the American press, the story of the Pentagon Papers is perhaps as relevant today as it was during the 1970s. As an unequivocal commentary on the importance of a constitutionally based need for a free press, and Meryl Streep’s involvement, The Post is unlikely to be a favourite of President Donald Trump. Despite its stellar cast and current political relevance, The Post feels strangely sanitized, with its clean-haired hippies and notable lack of cigarette smoking (Klaus Ming January 2018).
