The Shape of Water (2017)

US 123m, Colour
Director: Guillermo del Toro; Cast: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer

One of del Toro’s best, The Shape of Water is a quirky romantic science fiction fantasy that brings together a lonely mute woman and a creature whose film history was born in the Black Lagoon. Set during the Cold War, this is a gorgeously set and filmed production that seems to baffle half its audience, who might otherwise applaud Beauty and the Beast (Klaus Ming February 2018).
