The Square (2017)

Sweden, Germany, France, Denmark 151m, Colour
Director: Ruben Östlund; Cast: Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, Dominic West, Terry Notary

The Square is a satirical and sometimes surreal farce about the world of modern art and societal norms. At the center of the film is a curator of a Museum who bungles the promotion of a new art installation while badly mishandling a number of unrelated personal challenges. Both comical and unsettling, The Square wanders delightfully around its plot as it highlights the absurdities of contemporary life and art, but seems to stop short of providing a meaningful criticism (Klaus Ming February 2018).
