Touching the Void (2004)

UK 106m, Colour
Director: Kevin Macdonald: Cast: Brendan Mackey, Nicholas Aaron, Ollie Ryall

Based upon Joe Simpson’s accounts in his 1988 book of the same name, Touching the Void is a masterful dramatic reconstruction of one of the most terrifying and incredible feats of survival. An expertly crafted documentary-style film, MacDonald uses actors to recreate the catastrophic events which took place in 1985 on the slopes of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. The film’s authenticity and power is heightened with the inclusion of interviews with the actual survivors (Simpson, Yates, and Hawking) who provide the narration of the harrowing events (Klaus Ming January 2019).
