Straight to Hell (1987)

UK/US/Spain 86m, Colour
Director: Alex Cox; Cast: Dick Rude, Sy Richardson, Courtney Love, Joe Strummer, Shane MacGowan, Dennis Hopper, Xander Berkeley, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello, Jim Jarmusch

From the director of Repo Man (1984), Straight to Hell is a surreal bullet-filled Spaghetti Western inspired film about three bank robbers and a pregnant woman who find themselves in a town full of espresso drinking music loving cowboys. Despite the film’s chaotic plot and the largely detached performances, this is an interesting surreal film whose underlying punk sensibility is obviously drawn from the ensemble cast of like-minded musicians (Klaus Ming January 2019).
