A Society Sensation (1918)

US 24m, B&W, Silent

Director: Paul Powell; Cast: Carmel Myers, Rudolpho De Valentina, Lydia Yeamans Titus,
Alfred Allen, Fred Kelsey, ZaSu Pitts, Harold Goodwin

A Society Sensation is a romantic melodrama about the daughter of a fisherman who is led to believe that she is a duchess. Borrowing elements from Pygmalion, the Captain’s daughter Sydney is sent to the city to learn the necessary social graces of her position and falls in love with a young well-to-do man. As a partially lost film, with only about half of the original footage preserved, this is a largely forgettable production, other than for the fact that it features Rudolph Valentino (Klaus Ming March 2019).
