Fahrenheit 451 (2018)

US 101m, Colour
Director: Ramin Bahrani; Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Michael Shannon, Sofia Boutella, Lilly Singh, Grace Lynn Kung, Martin Donovan

In exploring recent political trends toward disinformation via social media and the internet, Bahrani offers up a modern version of Ray Bradbury’s 1953 classic novel of the same name. Perhaps more relevant than ever, Bradbury’s disturbing dystopian story of a fireman who burns books on behalf of the state, seems increasingly prophetic in a world of “alternative facts”. In comparison to Truffaut’s 1966 adaptation, this updated version is more focused on the dangers of the authoritarian state and somewhat less concerned about the importance of literature to society (Klaus Ming April 2019).
