The Last Round: Chuvalo vs Ali (2003)

Canada 110m, B&W and Colour
Director: Joseph Blasioli; Cast: George Chuvalo, Colin Linden, Bert Randolph Sugar

The Last Round is a film about the life and career of Canadian boxer George Chuvalo. Largely remembered as a “journeyman” in the Heavyweight division, and for his 15 round loss against Ali on March 29, 1966, George’s career is a surprisingly complex story. Produced by the National Film Board of Canada, this is a well-researched documentary with in-depth contemporary interviews and rare archival footage that has historical significance to Canadian sport, identity and culture. It also serves as a fitting testament to one of Canada’s most extraordinary sports figures and one of Ali’s toughest opponents (Klaus Ming May 2019).
