Jojo Rabbit (2019)

US 108m, Colour
Director: Taika Waititi; Cast: Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Taika Waititi, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson

Jojo Rabbit is a satirical black comedy about a young German boy living through the end of World War II. Portrayed as his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler gives some really bad advice to Johannes “Jojo” Betzler through a series of conversations that test his affection for the Fuhrer. Filled with farcical humour, there are moments of tragedy which initially seem out of place, but ultimately give the film a surprising gravity (Klaus Ming January 2020).

I pick my favorite move of the year in the first few weeks of January and I’m torn between Jojo Rabbit, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood and Cats. (I loved Cats!) I saw Jojo Rabbit two weeks in a row, I loved it so much! I’m still debating with myself. I sometimes just have a two- or three-way tie, and I may end up doing that this year.

Ha, ha, your the first person I’ve heard that even liked Cats 😉 My favourite was Jojo Rabbit, but so far, Joker is my pick…
