Richard Jewell (2019)

US 129m, Colour
Director: Clint Eastwood; Cast: Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde

Richard Jewell is a sad biographical drama about a security guard who was a suspect in the July 27th Centennial Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. While originally proclaimed a hero, public attention turned to Jewell as the likely perpetrator after the press suggested that his profile matched a would-be-bomber. Falsely accused in the court of public opinion, a devastated Jewell eventually finds redemption, but not without great personal cost. As a cautionary tale, the story of Richard Jewell is a reminder of the power and responsibility of the press and the need for confidentiality in matters of justice (Klaus Ming February 2020).
