Director: Pedro Almodóvar; Cast: Antonio Banderas, Asier Etxeandia, Penélope Cruz, Julieta Serrano, Leonardo Sbaraglia
Pain and Glory is a thoughtful and melancholic drama presented in a non-linear format about the life of a film director who can no longer work because of various physical and mental ailments. Using flashbacks from his childhood, we come to understand his life through his past relationships with friends and family. Seemingly inspired by elements of Almodóvar’s experiences, Pain and Glory is a personal exploration of life’s purpose and the therapeutic nature of self reflection through art (Klaus Ming February 2020).
