The Alpinist (2021)

Canada 92m

Directors: Peter Mortimer, Nick Rosen Cast: Marc-André Leclerc, Brette Harrington, Peter Mortimer, Will Gadd, Alex Honnold, Michelle Kuipers, Reinhold Messner, Austin Siadak

The Alpinist is the story of Canadian climber Marc-André Leclerc, whose mountaineering accomplishments are legendary amongst his peers. Preferring not be in the spotlight, Leclerc is at times, a reluctant participant in his own film. Notwithstanding his efforts to distance himself from the filmmakers, there is plenty of spectacular footage of Leclerc in some extraordinary situations. Although the commentary by some of the most important figures in climbing and mountaineering helps contextualize the significance of his achievements, The Alpinist is in essence a character study of a unique individual whose love of climbing knew few boundaries (Klaus Ming December 2021).
