Bumblebee (2018)

US 114m, Colour
Director: Travis Knight; Cast: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon

As a prequel and a series reboot, Bumblebee is the sixth live action film in the Transformers series, and perhaps the best of the lot. As a standalone movie, Bumblebee is fairly entertaining, despite some cringe worthy dialogue from the supporting human cast. Knight’s efforts to create a sense of playful nostalgia also feels forced, particularly in view of the odd mix of 1980’s songs. Despite the missteps, Bumblebee is an amusing film, whether you’ve never seen a Transformers film, or whether you’ve seen them all (Klaus Ming April 2019).
