The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

US 165m, Colour
Director: Christopher Nolan; Cast: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman

The Dark Knight Rises is a lumbering maudlin affair whose only bright spot is the introduction of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle the cat burglar who helps bring the Bat Man out of retirement. The film’s chief villain, “Bane” – a Mad Max styled meat head with Darth Vader-like respiratory issues is almost as evil as he is annoying. Despite a surprising plot twist which links Bane’s destructive plans for Gotham City to Ra’s al Ghul’s plans from the first film, The Dark Knight has tired like every other sequel to the previous re-imagined Batman films (Klaus Ming August 2012).

I like it when I decide not to see a movie and then you review it and confirm that I made the right decision. 🙂

As I talked about on my blog, a big factor in my decision was the length. I’m not going to see a really long movie like that in a theater unless I have some reason to think it will be awesome.

Plus, Bane in the comic books is a wonderful & complex character, and everything I’ve read has indicated that the movie Bane is a very different and much less interesting.

So, apparently, another missed opportunity like Emma Frost.

Heh, heh…glad i can be of service! The movie is entertaining enough – but suffers from too many plot lines and poor performances. While Bane’s character was pretty bad, it was Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter’s death scene that was right out of the silent film era!

This is a very brave piece of work here given by Christopher Nolan and he shows that he can pull-off a near-perfect trilogy, even if a lot of people don’t want to see him go. Hopefully, this means he’s off to doing more original pieces of work like Inception or The Prestige. Good review Klaus.

Just saw this on DVD, and I think your review is spot-on. Hathaway is great, and Selina’s the only character in the movie who resembles a human being.

My two biggest complaints were that Alfred basically tells the ending about fifteen minutes in, and that I can’t imagine the government tolerating the status quo for all the months it would have taken for Wayne to heal his broken back, get back into shape, try and try and try to get out of the pit, and travel halfway around the world. The scenario from The Avengers and Resident Evil Afterlife seems more plausible. 🙂

Thanks Anthony! Glad to see you followed up on your original comment. And yeah, the dark knight’s rise was not very plausible 🙂
