Get Hard is another in a long list of comedies starring the ridiculously funny Will Ferrell who will do just about anything for a laugh. As James King, an extremely wealthy investment manager, Ferrell plays the consummate nerd who is taken advantage of by his fiance and her unscrupulous father. Framed for fraud and embezzlement, James seeks out a coach to toughen him up in preparation for his 10 year jail sentence. Dangerously playing with many cultural stereotypes, Get Hard is a surprisingly sentimental movie that seems to have crossed the line for many viewers, but is neither mean-spirited nor offensive in the context of King’s character (Klaus Ming December 2015).
Too much improv, not enough actual funny jokes. Nice review Klaus.
Thanks. I find the underlying absurdity in most of Ferrell’s characters to be entertaining enough to watch – and James King no exception. Likewise, Casa de mi Padre: https://klausming.wordpress.com/2013/01/10/casa-de-mi-padre-2012/ has few real big laughs, but Armando Álvarez is endlessly entertaining.
