The Cave (2019)

Denmark / Syria 95m, Colour
Director: Feras Fayyad; Cast: Amani Ballour, Salim Namour

Following The Last Men in Aleppo (2017), The Cave is Fayyad’s continuing documentation of pain and suffering inflicted on the Syrian people during their Civil War. Following Dr. Amani Ballour and the staff of an underground hospital in the besieged city of Ghouta, we become witness to the tragedies that befall both the city’s inhabitants and the health care workers who stay behind to help the sick and injured. As a lasting record of the events, this film, as others have done, will serve history and perhaps justice for the Syrian people (Klaus Ming February 2020).
